About
Welcome to Bushgear.ca
If you’ve ever had a zipper bust on a remote portage trail, a "waterproof" pack fail during a heavy downpour, or a budget knife blade chip while carving a simple camp peg, you already know the golden rule of the outdoors: Your kit matters most when things go wrong.
I didn't start this site to copy and paste manufacturer brochures. I started Bushgear.ca out of a sheer obsession with high-performance, self-reliant equipment that actually survives real-world abuse.
Based out of Huron County, Ontario, I spend my early mornings training, planning, and prepping for the next adventure. Whether I'm fly fishing a hidden river pocket, paddling deep into a northern backcountry route, or outfitting a camping setup, the gear I bring has to earn its place in my pack.
The Bushgear Manifesto: Data Over Hype
The modern outdoor industry is flooded with marketing fluff, paid brand influencers, and generic "top 10" review sites that have never actually touched the products they recommend.
We do things differently here. We look at gear through an analytical, spec-driven lens:
-
Real-World Abuse: If a blade claims it's cryo-treated Sandvik steel, we test its edge retention on hard wood. If a flashlight promises a certain lumen runtime, we test it until the cell drops.
-
Zero Corporate Fluff: If a piece of equipment is premium, we’ll break down exactly why it’s worth your hard-earned cash. If it’s over-hyped craft-store garbage, we'll tell you straight up.
-
The Forest and the Float: Our focus bridges everything a self-reliant explorer needs—from technical everyday carry (EDC) pocket tools and heavy-duty bushcraft blades to reliable camp kitchens, marine electronics, and rugged trail apparel.
Gear is an Investment in Safety
When you are miles away from the nearest cellular tower, your tools are your lifeline. This site is built to be a premium, data-driven catalog to help you build an optimized, bulletproof loadout—saving you from wasted money and broken gear in the bush.
Thanks for stopping by. Grab a coffee, check out our latest head-to-head gear shootouts, and build a pack you can actually trust before you head out.
